Direct Taxation by EU gets closer

EU Taxation

EU's Tax Commissioner, Janusz Lewandowski, ... told the Financial Times Deutschland that "the door is open to think about revenues that are not claimed by (national) finance ministers." He said that the current system whereby 76 per cent of the EU's budget is paid for by national contributions "was not the intention of the founding fathers."

Says Lord David Stoddart - "A very expensive insult"
Lord Stoddart

"President van Rompuy is a very expensive insult to the taxpayers of Europe.

"He is unelected, having been chosen during a dinner. His annual salary of £273,814 is greater than that of President Obama and, although funded by the taxpayer, he cannot be voted out of office."

He added: "However, this is a drop in the ocean compared to the £252 million being spent on the creation of a palace for him to work in. President van Rompuy is part of the new overpaid and unelected political elite which is now the real Government of Britain and all the other member states."

Lord Stoddart of Swindon quoted by Subrosa on Monday, 16 August 2010

and she concludes:

"I wish there were some like the good Lord on the Tory and Libdem back benches."

Cooperation between sovereign states is the answer, not enforced supra-national governments
American InterestDespite the concerns of many, the EU project steams ahead relentlessly. There seems to be little understanding that attempts to bring such diverse cultures together under one government are doomed to failure. There seems to be little understanding that the UK state, based on centuries of Common Law, has developed a culture where the individual rights are paramount, and the state is subservient, despite the attempts to reverse this over the last decade. Compare that with most EU states, where Civil law gives power to the state, with the “citizens” becoming the servants of the state. Melding cultures together, with such huge differences cannot work. Either Common Law is adopted or Civil Law, with Civil Law almost certainly the winner.

These huge differences seem to be ignored in two recent reports, which both assume an ever onward move towards the Rome Treaty's vision of Ever Closer Union.

Our Prime Minister, bound in law, to serve the interests of the EU

Oliver CromwellAnn Winterton, MP, won the ballot to ask the first question in the first Prime Minister's Question Time in the new session of Parliament, on Wednesday (Oct 14th). She asked the most important question of the day so I listened to the BBC's "Today in Parliament" to hear it, but it was not mentioned, but the, The European Union rarely is.

I wonder how many people really understand the significance of the question that she asked. It seemed, from his answer, that Gordon Brown, did not.

Brussels laid Bare – Marta Andreasen
Marta AndreasenIn a page turner, as good as any novel, Andreasen exposes the inner workings of the European Union, the self deception, the corruption and the methods used to ridicule and remove any dissenters from the view of the inner elite. She takes us on an almost unbelievable ride through her recruitment, her time in the EU, her dismissal and her appeals against the dismissal. For those who hold the view that the only way to achieve results, on a global scale, is through organisations such as the EU, this book will raise serious doubts.

Tighten your seat belts – Sweden takes over
Václav KlausVáclav Klaus hands over Presidency of the EU to Sweden as his term comes to an end. He has been able to slow down the "Ever Greater Union Express" for these last six months, As he said to the 16th Summit of Presidents of Central, Eastern and Southern European states on June 16th.

... we are concerned about the fact that the decision-making in the EU is becoming increasingly distant from the citizens, about the fact that various integration initiatives are not based on authentic interests of the member states and their citizens, but are rather prefabricated and imposed from above.
