A fact the few seem willing to acknowledge is that Germany has never ratified the Maastricht Treaty, and we make all this fuss about the Lisbon Treaty Referendum in Ireland! It makes no difference to the 'colleagues' in the EU.
We can thank Dr Peter Gauweiler, the CSU MP for Munich South for the problem with the Maastricht Treaty.
Gawain Towler of England Expects, has spotted that Dr Gauweiler has filed a complaint about the Treaty with the German Federal Constitutional Court. He reproduces the complaint, which is shown below. It is worth reading in full as it list much of what is wrong with the Treaty and the EU.

The transfer of power to the EU is normally undertaken through treaties. Passerelle (literally footbridge) clauses allow for the transfer of powers without the necessity for the full treaty process, thus can be used when a quick transfer of power, to the E.U., is required. But, as with all things E.U., the Passerelle clauses have given rise to considerable differences of opinion.
The House of Commons prepares for its vote on the Lisbon treaty today, before the Bill is sent to the House of Lords. Thank God for their Lordships!
