Spot the Difference - Italian Politics

Massimomarini
This is a translation of a chain email that is circulating among Italians interested in politics. The original is in Italian and recipients are asked to pass it on. The text is actually an abbreviated version of a longer piece and the original source is noted here after the emailer's final punch line. (The unabridged and considerably longer version is also currently circulating)

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE!

The Head of the Government tarnished his reputation repeatedly during his career, and should have deserved not only the condemnation of honest people, but also he should have been shamed and any authority to govern should have been removed. Why did people tolerate and even applaud his crimes? On the one hand there is a moral indifference, on the other a certain shrewdness and a self interest. The majority of Italians were aware of his criminal activity but preferred to endorse and vote for a strong person rather than an honourable one. Unfortunately Italians had to choose between duty and self interest, and even though they know what their duty should be, they choose for selfish reasons. Therefore a mediocre and coarse man with eloquent and ...

EU Commission allows our no longer sovereign government to help home owners
House Move

As he so often does, Lord Stoddart forces the Westminster Puppet government to say who really runs the country. Let's remember that the homeowners mortgage support scheme had to be approved by our real lords and masters, the European Commission, before our, no longer sovereign, parliament could enact the legislation. Whilst we watch the sad pantomine in the House of Commons, let us be reminded once again, that MPs have very little real power remaining.

Asked by Lord Stoddart of Swindon on 20 May 2009, from Hansard

The United States strongly supports Turkey's bid to become a member of the European Union

HurriyetFrom the Turkish Hurriyet Daily news, reporting on President Obama's visit to the Turkish parliament, toady (Monday April 6th 2009)

"Let me be clear: the United States strongly supports Turkey's bid to become a member of the European Union. We speak not as members of the EU, but as close friends of Turkey and Europe. Turkey has been a resolute ally and a responsible partner in transatlantic and European institutions. And Turkey is bound to Europe by more than bridges over the Bosphorous. Centuries of shared history, culture, and commerce bring you together. Europe gains by diversity of ethnicity, tradition and faith - it is not diminished by it. And Turkish membership would broaden and strengthen Europe's foundation once more."

It is post-democracy which rules the EU
President Vaclav KlausI repeat in full, this excerpt from the transcript of a meeting between Václav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, and members of the Conference of the Presidents of the European Parliament, Friday 5 December 2008, Prague Castle. It comes from the EUReferendum website. Any reader must ask "What is this democracy of which the EU speaks?" More and more are learning the answer!!

Daniel Cohn-Bendit MEP: I brought you a flag, which - as we heard - you have everywhere here at the Prague Castle. It is the flag of the European Union, so I will place it here in front of you.

It will be a tough Presidency. The Czech Republic will have to deal with the work directive and climate package. EU climate package represents less than what our fraction would wish for. It will be necessary to hold on to the minimum of that. I am certain that the climate change represents not only a risk, but also a danger for the future development of the planet. My view is based on scientific views and majority approval of the EP and I know you disagree with me. You can believe what you want, I don't believe, I know that global warming is a reality.

Lisbon Treaty: I don't care about your opinions on it. I want to know what you are going to do if the Czech Chamber of Deputies and the Senate approve it. Will you respect the will of the representatives of the people? You will have to sign it.

I want you to explain to me what is the level of your friendship with Mr Ganley from Ireland. How can you meet a person whose funding is unclear? You are not supposed to meet him in your function. It is a man whose finances come from problematic sources and he wants to use them to be funding his election campaign into the EP.

President Vaclav Klaus: I must say that nobody has talked to me in such a style and tone for the past 6 years. You are not on the barricades in Paris here. I thought that these manners ended for us 18 years ago but I see I was wrong. I would not dare to ask how the activities of the Greens are funded. If you are concerned about a rational discussion in this half an hour, which we have, please give the floor to someone else, Mr Chairman.

Debout la République, an encouraging sign in France against "bruxellose".
debout la republique

The French have a new party. I've reproduced some of Nicolas Dupont-Aignan's closing remarks from the FOUNDING CONGRESS Debout La Republic Sunday, 23 November 2008 - House of Mutuality - Paris, about the two party system that has failed France. (As my French is almost non-existant, please excuse the very rough Google Translation of this French document). I am encouraged by this development and would hope to see something similar in the UK. Whilst we would not see all things through the Gaulist eyes, I feel that many would be in agreement with some of the sentiments that Nicolas Dupont-Aignant expressed.

For thirty years they pretend to oppose each other, but in reality they defend the single thought. They are co-programmed the sinking of the country.

They suffer the ship with a thimble without plugging gaping holes in the hull.

More than ever our country needs a different policy.

Because democracy, it is no secret, it must build a political party to present a project to the voters.

He goes on to say:

the European Union, in its current form, is dead. But I also say: Vive l'Europe because it is possible to organize a strong cooperation between the nations of Europe. How 500 million Europeans can agree to confer full powers to institutions (Commission, ECB ECJ), whose members are not subject to any democratic control?

You know the "bruxellose? It is a disease. Those affected begin to decide on everything.

Read more below, which includes an extract from this speech, in both French and googlenglish. I hope none of this rough translation offends my french friends.
